2 Day IMH Masterclass April 22nd- 23rd Cork

Keeping the Baby in Mind: Bridging the Gap between Theory and Practice in Infant Mental Health

This is a 2 Day Programme for practitioners who have developed a familiarity regarding the practice of infant mental health and now wish to develop their clinical skills to consolidate their practice.

“Today, we are in possession of a vast scientific treasure, a treasure that should be returned to babies and their families as a gift from science” (Fraiberg, 1980)

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the science of early development and its contribution to clinical practice
  • Consolidate understanding of the importance of the baby’s early relationships and the surrounding environment
  • Recognise what promotes, supports and challenges the baby-caregiver relationships during pre-, peri- and post-natal periods and up to the three year developmental period
  • Strengthen knowledge base regarding the core social and emotional developmental tasks of the infant and toddler stage
  • Develop and implement an Infant Mental Health (IMH) service framework
  • Establish frameworks for Reflection and Reflective Practice Supervision

 

Facilitators:

  • Catherine Maguire is a Senior Clinical Psychologist and Infant Mental Health Specialist & Clinical Mentor IMH-E®(IV) with 20 years experience in Child and Family Psychology Services. She completed her infant mental health training and endorsement with the Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health. Her clinical specialisation includes the development and establishment of infant mental health service frameworks and building workforce capacity. Her current work is focussed on promotion, prevention and intervention of infant mental health and wellbeing.
  • Mairéad Carolan is a Senior Clinical Psychologist with over 25 years experience in mental health services. She has a particular interest and experience in working with mothers with post-natal depression and anxiety. Her area of specialisation is in the interface between Infant Mental Health and Adult Mental Health. She has been a member of the North Cork Infant Mental Health Network for over 10 years.

The Irish Association for Infant Mental Health is pleased to announce that a 2 day Masterclass in Infant Mental Health will be held in Cork on April 22nd and 23rd 2016.

Course Facilitators: Catherine Maguire and Mairead Carolan, Senior Clinical Psychologists and specialists in perinatal and infant mental health.

IAIMH 2015 AGM *CHANGE OF VENUE*

IAIMH’s 2015 AGM will be held from 4- 5.30pm in The Hilton Hotel, Charlemont Place, Dublin.

This will be held directly after Kevin Nugent’s workshop on ‘Preventive Intervention Beginning in the Perinatal Period: Use of the Neonatal Behavioural Observations (NBO) System’ (details for which can be found here).

Members will have been sent membership renewal forms and forms on which to submit motions.

Kevin Nugent Event and 2015 AGM

On Monday the 16th of November Kevin Nugent of the Brazelton Centre will deliver a one day workshop on ‘Preventive Intervention Beginning in the Neonatal Period’ in Dublin. This is a joint IAIMH and Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) event.

The workshop will cover the following:

  1. Review of the theoretical principles underlying the Newborn Behavioural Observations (NBO) System
  2. A description of the NBO
  3. Learning from training in Parent- Infant Mental Health around the world

 

This is an inter- discipline workshop and is open to any professional with an interest in Infant Mental Health. Those working in maternity services and any aspect of perinatal and postnatal care in the community are particularly welcome.

The event runs from 9.30am- 3.30pm in The Hilton Hotel, Charlemont Place, Dublin and will cost 80 euro for IAIMH and PSI members and 100 euro for non members.

Kevin Nugent to speak in Galway and Dublin

Dr Kevin Nugent, Founder and Director of the Brazelton Institute at Boston Children’s Hospital and Professor Emeritus of Child and Family Studies at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst will be delivering the keynote address at the annual conference of the Psychological Society of Ireland on Friday the 13th of November in Galway followed by a workshop on Monday the 16th of November in Dublin.
